Green Book – Best of Drives
For motoring journalists, it’s all about the ride and rarely about the journey.
Yet as most motor-noters will confirm, the locations of the ride can be more interesting than the actually vehicle being tested.
One Australian journalist, Queensland-based Barry Green and a tester for the state’s RAC magazine, decided to put his journeys in a book and the result is a fabulous drive through some stunning countries and roads in some very interesting vehicles.
So good is his “The Best of Drives 1” that the name clearly indicates there will be more books following.
The latest self-published book covers 176 pages and almost 50 locations seen through the visor and windscreens of bikes and cars in the US, Japan, the UK, Europe and Australia.
Some are new car launches and other articles are about Barry’s hiring of some classic cars for a tour of some scenic overseas location.
Barry says his “first-hand” accounts are “intended to capture the freedom, fun, adventure and exhilaration of driving a cracking car on a ripper road or racing circuit.” And it does.
He says his book “tells of the special spaces and places where driver and car are at one” and at this time in history, when many are restricted because of COVID-19, it comes as an open window to the possibilities outside.
For anyone that likes travel and vehicles, this is a great book in which to drench yourself.
