MG’s six-cylinder MGC was the car that took the brand’s key model to places most buyers always wanted. A place that was reached quicker and provided a tonne more of the fun factor that the extra 50 horsepower had on tap. The MGC GT was promoted as the brand’s performance model, highlighted by the inline six-cylinder engine and the plan for it to replace the Austin-Healey 3000. It wasn’t as popular as the original four-cylinder MGB — despite having almost the same fuel consumption — largely because of its extra purchase price and a constrained supply of the six-cylinder engine. Now it is a very rare model after only 4457 GTs were made, compared with 125,323 four-cylinder MGB GTs. This example came from the US and was converted here. It is in very good condition typical of its age and its frequent maintenance program. It has also livd its life in Perth in a secure and weatherproof showroom. Recent work includes an overhaul of the cooling system, a new battery, brake pads and stainless-steel exhaust system. It has leather upholstery with cabin materials in good oder, although the dash could do with some attention to rectify poor fitment. It drives strongly and with excellent response and it’s easy to see how it was so well received by drivers when released. The 2.9-litre engine is mated to a four-speed non-overdrive gearbox. It is on concessional (club) license. It has always been securely garaged and serviced and maintained. It can be inspected in Perth. Additional information and photographs are available. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at buyer’s cost.
