THIS is not your average XK120, the car that put Jaguar firmly on the sports car map and the father of the iconic E-Type. As a purchase for the Jaguar purist, this 1953 example is one of only 195 right-hand drives built. It has a history from its build date of June 17, 1953, through to its long-standing ownership in New Zealand and its classic-car competitions, many successful in the hands of owners including Dave Silcock. Because of its competition history, it has been carefully upgraded through the years, including a restoration in the 1990s. But the highlight is the work on the drivetrain and chassis, upgrading the suspension and adding four-wheel disc brakes. The 3.8-litre engine has been swapped for a 4.2-litre rebuilt and modified by Mike Roddy Sports with Carrillo rods, head flow work, aluminium radiator and triple double-throat carburettors. An estimated $45,000 has been spent on the engine and drivetrain with receipts available. It has a five-speed gearbox and the car has been rewired. The older restoration still shows the car is in very good condition and the metallic green paint and chrome work, including the rear luggage rack, shines in light. The green leather interior and timber dash are in very good condition, as are the instruments. The car drives beautifully with a muted exhaust roar, excellent off-the-mark performance and strong brakes. It may suit a Jaguar enthusiast with a desire to enter competitive or club events, or someone who just enjoys a classic with a lot of history and some rarity, to drive. The car is fully street licensed (in Western Australia). It can be inspected in Perth. Additional information and photographs are available. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at buyer’s cost.
