This high-quality, hand-built and very rare homage to the 1939 Jaguar SS100 is the product of bespoke South Australian automotive restoration company Finch Motor Company and is considered internationally as one of the best of the reproductions. It is as close to an original SS100 as you can feasibly get, particularly as an original costs upwards of $500,000 and even less sympathetic reproductions go for around $100,000. Unlike the three other notable coach builders who replicated the SS100, Finch did not use XJ6 components as a base but instead drew extensively from Jaguar’s original drawings and used predominantly Jaguar MkIV parts. The one-owner car here, one of less than a dozen believed made in the 1990s, has a Jaguar MkIV ladder-frame chassis with a timber body frame with aluminium panels. The engine is a 3.5-litre MkIV six-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed Toyota Celica gearbox. The car has always been in the hands of one enthusiast who has ensured it remained serviced and maintained and garaged. Cabin features include leather bucket seats, full Jaguar instrumentation and a removable, fully-lined hardtop. The body is in very good condition, free of any damage, while the drivetrain and chassis are in excellent mechanical condition. The car has mechanical (cable) twin-leading shoe brakes from the era which are in perfect order and deliver very strong and predictable performance. The 19-inch spoked wheels are also in very good condition and wear Firestone rubber. The engine starts quickly, idles smoothly and pulls strongly. Despite the car’s impressive size and design, it is easy to drive with a light clutch and gearbox shift action. The car is on a (club) concessional license. This vehicle can be inspected in Perth.
