MGB with an international race history

How rare to find an immaculately prepared endurance MG that in the past decade has a history of competition in events from Peking to Paris, and Perth to Sydney. This MGB GT has been meticulously built and prepared since 2014 by its owner and driver to be a reliable competitor in international events — such as the Peking to Paris in 2019, Rally of the Incas (2016) and Perth to Sydney Marathon (2022) — and club and local rallies such as the Classic Outback Trial (2018) and Gold Coast to Perth return event of 2015. The owner bought the car in 2014 as a rolling chassis, fitted with reconditioned engine and gearbox, and finished its restoration in 2015. It has been used regularly in club events, and several international endurance rallies. The car was built for reliability based on careful preparation, sensible driving, keeping the car light, and thorough maintenance. The car failed to finish an event only once, due to a rear oil seal issue. The car has not ben modified and is mainly in standard condition with key differences being: 15″ wheels (rally-spec alloys); 5-speed gearbox; long-range fuel tank; extra leaf in the rear springs; halogen headlights; LED tail, brake and instrument lights; high-capacity radiator; lightweight seven-blade fan and shroud; modern high-capacity alternator; map-reading light wand; Monit rally computer (GPS speed and distance); UHF radio; volt meter; tyre-pressure monitoring system; flexible exhaust pipe joint; extractors; and an extra set of horns. The car has zero rust, having had three bare-metal re-sprays, most recently after the Peking to Paris (2019). On that occasion both left and right sills were replaced with new component as this is a known potential rust area. Since the Perth to Sydney the car has been stripped and a ‘clean, repair or replace’ approach taken to the rebuild. The engine was stripped, chemically cleaned and checked by a specialist. The crankshaft was re-ground, bores honed, tunnel bored, new camshaft and lifters, new bearings and piston rings, seals etc. A new hand brake cable, choke cable fitted. The speedo was were professionally reconditioned. The car has new brake and clutch master cylinders, a new clutch slave cylinder and hose, a new brake booster, rebuilt fuel pump, and new heavy duty front mats. It comes with a full set of spares and mainly new parts, including chrome front and rear bumpers in excellent condition (removed for rallies). Tyres are 205/70 x 15 Geolander SUV AT tyres. 95% tread at rear, 75% at front. The higher profile gives improved clearance. Cosmetically, there is a small tear in the passenger seat. The panel fit is fair only, but could be improved. The car is wired for driving lights. The rear hatch glass can be heated but is no longer connected. The car is on concessional license plates. Inspection is in Perth. Additional information and photographs are available. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at the buyer’s cost. While information supplied for this listing has been taken in good faith, prospective buyers should undertake their own research and investigation before purchase.
