The best exhaust note of any MG and right up there with some of the most beautiful exhaust music every created by an internal-combustion engine. Slotting the ubiquitous 3.5-litre Rover V8 into the MGB GT shell created a closed-body sports car that was fast, responsive and because the V8 was lighter than the 1.8-litre engine, maintained the roadholding finesse and threw in a huge driving fun factor. Only 2591 MGB GT V8s were built (all right-hand drive) and this steel bumper is one of the last before MG made the soft-nose version. This car came into Australia from the UK and has had a light refresh, keeping its factory “Citron” paint colour and cloth upholstery. In the past three years, it has had a mechanical birthday that included fitting new cam lifters and for summer heat, an aluminium radiator. The car has always been serviced and stored under cover. The cabin is in very good condition with all working instruments and comfortable upholstery. On the road the car is quick and agile, backed by the V8 burble and roar. It runs faultlessly, with taut suspension and a slick four-speed gearbox with electric overdrive (steering column switch), perfect for city commuting or a long country run. It has concessional registration plates (WA) with the same number as when it was delivered to its first owner in the UK on March 27, 1974. It can be inspected in Perth.
