Pretty Mercedes 1972 350SL comes with hardtop and as-new soft top roofs, new cabin upholstery and strong drivetrain. But it need some attention to the central locking, paint and has some small areas of body corrosion. As a late 1980s right-hand drive import from the UK, it does not have air conditioning (but has a removable roof!). The car is now surplus to the owner’s needs and has been driven sparingly in the past 10 years, mainly local trips and annually to be serviced. The 1972 model (R107) is the first of the new series of Mercedes convertibles following from the W113 ‘pagoda’ roof model and is destined to become as sought after as the W113 in future years. It is considered an important model in the Mercedes-Benz line up and one worth looking at for some light restoration. The R107 has a reputation as a very solid car designed for long distances in comfort and with the desirable open-top roof format. The example here comes with the hardtop and has an as-new soft-top roof included. It drives well and is solid on the road, the fuel injected 3.5-litre V8 (200hp/286Nm) starts easily and purrs quietly, while brakes and steering and suspension are in good order. The owner reports no problems with the drivetrain and chassis. There has been a lot of work on the interior, with new beige upholstery, restored headliner and refurbished dashboard that includes a period Pioneer audio system. It is offered for sale at $29,000 negotiable. The car is on full licence in WA. Inspection is in Perth southern suburbs. Additional information and photographs are available. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.
