A passion for perfection has kept this 1924 Amilcar in near-perfect condition and well prepared for any club event. The car has been with the current owners since 2016 and has been active in many touring events where it has shown to be reliable and fun to drive. Historical data shows the car was bought in 1980 by a NSW collector and lists six custodians through to the time the current owners bought the car in 2016. There is no history available prior to 1980. The work by the current owners, who are classic car enthusiasts, has made this example suitable for daily drives and features modifications — including those available at the time from Amilcar — that give it excellent on-road manners, including the upgrade to four-wheel brakes and the side-mounted sill plates beneath the chassis rails. The car also has a lockable storage box built into the rear deck that offers cargo room for small items and houses the electrical system’s battery. It also has a wicker basket beneath the rear deck. The car is original except for the lights and the battery. The national Amilcar owners collective knows of two running Amilcars in WA. The carmaker was active in France from 1922 to the mid-1930s, making the C4 from 1922 through to 1925. It was renown for its sporty nature and despite being a relatively low-cost car, well appointed features including full instrumentation. The C4 has a 1-litre side-valve engine and three-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Much of the bodywork is aluminium with the rear deck formed from timber with a fabric cover. The car seats two people with the passenger set back slightly from the driver. An elaborate footrest, embossed with the ‘Amilcar’ name, is fitted for the comfort of the passenger. The upholstery is leather and, on this example, is finished in blue and is unmarked. The owners said the car is a regretful sale caused by reduced opportunities for driving. Buyers can have transport of this car to any location arranged at the buyer’s cost.
